Ubisoft provided a promising update on the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, assuring fans that despite development challenges, the highly anticipated anniversary edition from Ubisoft Montreal is progressing well, addressing concerns about graphics, delays, and the absence of an official release date, similar to the ongoing situations faced by other Ubisoft projects like Skull and Bones, Splinter Cell remake, and Beyond Good and Evil 2.
Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, initially announced in 2020, faced criticism over its graphical fidelity in the announcement trailer. Subsequently, the game experienced multiple delays, a shift in development to Ubisoft Montreal, and a complete reboot. However, Ubisoft reassures fans that development is progressing well, marking a positive turn for the project.
The Road to Redemption
The remake, originally under Ubisoft India’s purview, was scheduled for a 2021 release. However, due to public backlash and quality concerns, the launch was postponed to March 2021. Following Ubisoft Montreal’s takeover in 2022, the project returned to the conception stage, causing further delays.
As you know, the passionate team at @UbisoftMTL is reimagining this legendary story, and we are glad to announce today that the project has passed an important internal milestone and development is progressing.
We look forward to sharing more in the future!

Despite setbacks, Ubisoft Montreal producer Jean-Francois Naud expressed dedication to completing the remake, acknowledging fan concerns. The game’s official release date is yet to be announced.
“Since we took over the project, we’ve been looking at feedback from the community and finding our way of delivering the game,” Naud said.
Current Status and Future Prospects
Six months after the reboot, Ubisoft recently provided a surprise update on the remake’s progress, indicating that it has surpassed an essential internal milestone. The company assures fans that more information will be shared in the future, hinting at a potential turnaround for the long-anticipated game.
“Now we’re building up the team, defining the priorities, putting prototypes together, testing elements and looking at how we can include community feedback in the development as well. It’s still in an early stage, and players should not expect to hear more about the game this year, but rest assured that we’re all putting our strengths and heart into this project,” added Naud.
Comparisons with Other Ubisoft Projects
Drawing parallels with other Ubisoft projects facing prolonged development, such as Skull and Bones, raises questions about the company’s ability to bring long-awaited titles to fruition. Splinter Cell’s remake and Beyond Good and Evil 2 have also encountered extended development periods, leaving fans uncertain about their release.
While the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has faced its share of challenges, Ubisoft remains committed to delivering a quality gaming experience. As the project reaches significant milestones, fans eagerly await further updates, hopeful for a successful revival of the beloved classic.
