The latest update of Dota 2 Fall 2021 pays tribute to the late Aldrin Paulo “Dunoo” Pangan. He was one of the most cherished casters of the game. Unfortunately, he died of covid-19 on August 27th. Aldrin Paulo “Dunoo” Pangan and his longtime partner Marlon “Lon” Marcelo were among the best casting duos in the Philippines.
Recall the famous “lakad matatag,” “oys,” and “the next level play”? Well, Dunoo and lon were the two behind these. The duo came under the limelight after a recording of a match. It was played by ESL One Katowice and Team Secret and Fanatic in the year 2018. So valve has come up with a beautiful way to pay tribute to the Filipino caster for his contribution to the game.
The Filipino caster was an even amazing player and largely contributed to the Dota 2 community. Thus, he was a well-known name in the esports culture of Southeast Asia.

More About the In-Game Tribute
The Covid-19 pandemic has made us lose family, friends and haven’t left public figures alone. But, unfortunately, Dunoo too fell prey to the increasing complication of Covid-19.
Dota 2 fans asked Valve to immortalize the caster with an in-game tribute. However, the fans came up with the idea of including the caster call permanently in the game. Hence, Valve has decided to pay tribute to the late caster by adding his famous lines to the chat wheel.
Three of Dunoo’s most famous voice lines will be added. However, these lines will only be available as rewards for the Platinum-tier guilds. Here are the lines that will be added in the game chat wheel –
- “Lakad Matataaaag! Normalin Normalin.” Which means “Walk Firmly! Attack Normally.”
- “Easiest money of my life!”
- “The next level play!”
According to PC Gamers, Valve added in their update announcement, “We were saddened to hear recently of the passing of Aldrin Paulo ‘Dunoo’ Pangan. An icon of the Filipino casting community.” They also included, “As a tribute, for the next season, the selected chat wheels feature some of his most iconic lines.”
These voice lines had become popular and favorite among players. Even The International 2018 witnessed Gabe Newell voicing these phrases himself. The lines became so immensely famous that they became an integral part of Dota 2 memes.
The Demise of Dunoo
The demise of Aldrin Paulo ‘Dunoo’ Pangan got the gaming community grieving. He was already suffering from complications when he caught Covid-19. Nevertheless, to say Covid-19 worsen his situation. After severe struggling and suffering, Dunoo took his last breath on the 27th of August, 2021.
It was from his Facebook live that people came to know that he has been exposed to Covid-19. He further shared in the broadcast about his condition. He also added that wherever he was getting the treatment, from did not have abundant oxygen cylinders.
His untimely death came to the public’s attention. TNC Predator, Team Secret, and Wykkrhm Reddy shared their part of condolences.
Concluding Thoughts
The Tagalog phrases became a uniting call for the whole Dota 2 community. Thinking of the voice behind it not being present among us certainly is disheartening. Gabe Newell, valve’s co-founder, used these phrases as greetings. But, with the idea of the fans and Valve’s instant cementing of the same, Dunoo will now be immortal.
